Junior Cricket

Camberley Cricket Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 5 and 17 to receive not only coaching but also an introduction into competitive cricket where the emphasis is placed on team spirit and having fun.

Coaching

We are delighted to have retained the services of Dan Burns as Head of Coaching Standards whilst the majority of the training sessions will be led by Sam Holmes, ably assisted by a number of qualified coaches who also play their cricket at the club. All coaches are trained and screened for their suitability for working with young people in accordance with our Welfare policies.

Cricket Academy and Development of Excellence

Camberley recognises the need to promote home grown players that will hopefully go on to represent the senior sides for years to come and with this in mind we have invested in our own Cricket Academy and Development of Excellence programs.  These programs will reward young talent at different age ranges and look to equip them with some of the finer skills require to make the transition from junior cricket to youth cricket and then from youth cricket to senior cricket.  A number of current senior players have benefitted from these schemes.

Competitions

Our teams enter competitions in the West Surrey Youth Cricket League, Gladys Chitty friendly league and Berkeley Sports Two Counties Youth League. Matches generally take place on a different evening relevant to the age group and on Sundays.

Community

As part of our commitment to being a community club, we offer cricketing opportunities for a number of demographics.  Along with the well-established boys section we also have our own girls' cricket team which was set up in 2013.  Another scheme to flourish was the introduction of our  'Crickets' course where youngsters from the age of 6 received bespoke coaching for 10 weeks over the Summer. This has been extended in 2014 to include boys and girls from the age of 5.

Parent Involvement

We welcome parents and carers to all training and competitions and value their support. It is expected that all children have a responsible adult in attendance at both training sessions and matches.

We are also keen to involve parents and carers in the club. There are opportunities to join the committee, to help out with social events and to organise or help with the barbeque on a Friday evening.

Training times

We operate a calendar for both Summer training held on the ground at Camberley and also Winter training at the fantastic indoor cricket centre at Kings international College.

For details of timings please see the Junior Training Times page here http://camberleycc.co.uk/index.php/cricket/junior-cricket/junior-training-times

Arrangements should be made for children to travel to and from training sessions and matches. Children should arrive promptly and be collected promptly at the end of the session.

Equipment

We ask that Juniors attend training wearing a cricket shirt and tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Cricket whites should be worn for matches, sweaters, shirts and caps can be purchased from the club. The club has bats, pads, gloves and helmets which we loan out during training and matches but we would expect all boys to have their own box.

If you would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child’s involvement with the club, please contact the Junior Cricket Chairman, Julian Hagger on 07500 990816.

We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to meeting you at some point in the future.

Yours sincerely

Julian Hagger
