P&G Youth Games - Girls Cricket

Camberley CC at the heart of Surrey Heath Success

Camberley Cricket Club is delighted to announce that the Surrey Heath girls cricket team, managed and coached by our very own Sam Holmes, collected a Silver Medal at the P&G Surrey Youth Games held at the Surrey Sports Park over the weekend of the 15th and 16th June 2013.

8 girls were selected from a group of 25 that attended the training sessions held at Camberley over the course of 8 weeks and represented a number of schools in the borough.  The sessions were funded by the Chance to Shine charity whose aim it is to provide cricketing opportunities in schools and clubs up and down the country.

The Silver Medal, one of 8 achieved over the two days, contributed 10 points to the overall competition scores and ensured that Surrey Heath finished joint 3rd out of the 11 boroughs that took part.

“Surrey Heath Borough Council is pleased to be working in partnership with Camberley CC to introduce girls to this exciting form of cricket. Not only will the girls develop their core skills of throwing, catching and striking but they will do it in a fun environment to encourage continued participation. We hope the Surrey Youth Games are the springboard for Camberley CC to host the first girls’ cricket team in Surrey Heath” - Gary Clifford, Sports Development Officer Surrey Heath Borough Council.

In addition Camberley CC are committed to continuing this involvement of girls cricket at the Club by launching our own girls’ section and are looking for players of all ages and abilities to come along to the dedicated training sessions to be held on Wednesday evenings between 18:15 and 19:45 commencing on Wednesday 19th June 2013

“Cricket is a not only a magnificent sport it is also a fantastic way to meet and make friends for life and the Surrey Youth Games is a great opportunity for girls in Surrey Heath to start playing. Therefore the Surrey Cricket Board fully support this and the new girls' section at Camberley CC” - Richard Hall, Cricket Development Officer, Surrey Cricket Board
